Regarding the matter, the police said, "The 18-year-old daughter of Chitranlal, a resident of Topri Majre Bhaniyapur village of Gauriganj police station area of the district, was sleeping inside the house on October 31. At the same time, a young man from the village climbed the wall and entered the house. First, he pressurized the girl not to get married somewhere else and on girl's refusal, he set a fire on her. After hearing the screams of the girl, the housemates ran away and the accused had escaped from the spot.

In this case, after somehow overcoming the fire, the family took the girl to the district hospital, where the doctors, noticed her condition critical, referred the trauma centre to Lucknow, but Sarita died while undergoing treatment at the trauma centre.
