Mumbai: A special POCSO Act court in Mumbai, the financial capital of Maharashtra, has sentenced a person to one-year imprisonment for indecently assaulting a minor. The person had said, 'I like you' while rolling a 100 rupee note on the lips of a minor. Why are you showing attitude so much? In this case, the police found the person accused of outraging the modesty of a minor and sexually assaulting her. However, while sentencing the 32-year-old criminal, the court took into account that his family was dependent on him and his mother was a cancer patient. Special Judge SC Jadhav said, "It is the duty of the court to impose appropriate punishment keeping in view the seriousness of the crime and the punishment it demands."

The witnesses cited by Special Public Prosecutor Veena Shelar to convict the culprit included the girl, her mother, and a neighbor. The 16-year-old girl told the court that on July 13, 2017, at 8 pm, she had gone to the market with her neighbor. There a person followed her. Stopped her on the way and came to her. The person waved a 100 rupee note on her lips.

The minor told that when she looked at the offender in anger, he said 'why are you doing this, why are you showing attitude so much'. She said she returned home and narrated the ordeal to her mother. Thereafter, the mother-daughter duo reached the police station and lodged an FIR against the man. The juvenile in her evidence stated that the offender used to follow her while going to college. He also used to pass comments. Even threatened to stab her and her mother. The neighbor of the minor also confirmed her statement.
