KANPUR: After a 17-year-old girl declined his marriage proposal, a young man allegedly threatened to hack her into pieces.
The accused, Mohd Faiz, has been taken into custody by the Kanpur police.
The minor apparently was being coerced by Faiz to marry him, but she turned him down. He threatened the girl, saying, "If the marriage doesn't happen, I will chop you into pieces," since he was upset over being rejected. The girl's relatives reported to authorities that the man used to follow the girl to school and continuously harass her.
They also tried to counsel Faiz but he didn't refrain from harassing the girl.
After that, the girl's relatives went to higher-ups in the police department and complained about Faiz, stating that the girl was in danger of dying.
When Faiz's family fought with the police during a raid by the Naubasta police on his Chaman Ganj home, the police dispatched more cops to the scene. Faiz was later detained.
Mohammed Faiz is the subject of a POCSO Act complaint, ACP Naubasta, Abhishek Kumar Pandey said.
