Recently, Indian youth table tennis player Manav Thakkar won the title of ITTF Challenge plus Benex Virgo North American Open in the under-21 category. As the second-seeded Manav defeated Argentina's Martin Bentancore 11–3, 11–5, 11–6 in a one-sided match in the final.

According to reports, Manav is the first Indian to win this title since 2017. The 19-year-old Manav is the fourth Indian to win the men's singles title in the ITTF World Tour Under-21 category. Before him, Harmeet Desai (2012, in Brazil), G Sathiyan (2012, in Egypt) and Soumyajit Ghosh (2011, Chile) have won titles. This is the first time an ITTF Challenge Series and World Tour tournament has been played in Canada.

Manav was also part of the team that won the bronze medal in the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. He defeated Argentina's Horacio Cifuentes 11-5, 11-9 in the quarter-finals, while beating Lorenzo Santiago 12-10, 7-11, 11-6 in the semi-finals.
