London: Manchester University students in Britain have launched a campaign against the proposal to install the statue of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi outside 'Manchester Cathedral'. Local authorities have approved the installation of Gandhi's statue. University students have started the "Gandhi Must Fall" campaign. The University's Students' Union has asked the Manchester city council to reconsider the decision to install a nine-foot-tall bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the center of the city in an open letter.

A letter posted on social media by a Manchester University student described Mahatma Gandhi as "anti-black racist". The letter has asked Manchester City Council to reject the statue installation outside Manchester Cathedral on 25 November. The students are accused of Mahatma Gandhi's involvement in the activities of British rule in Africa. The letter stated that Gandhi, in some of his remarks, referred to Africans with terms such as 'uncivilized', 'half-baked natives', 'wild', 'dirty' and 'animal-like'.

This statue of Gandhi is scheduled to be installed next month and its architect is Ram V Sutar. Incidentally, it is also the year of Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary. Student Union's Liberation and Access Officer Sara Khan has demanded a withdrawal of permission from the city council. At the same time, the council spokesman has said that the main purpose of installing Gandhi's statue is to spread his message of peace, love and brotherhood.
