Imphal: A 60-year-old villager, who lives in village Barhodhi under Manipur police chowki, got swept away and died due to the strong currents of water. Two days later, people caught sight of his body stuck in the bushes. The deceased has been identified as Sahali Ram. Giving information about the case, ASI Santosh Singh, posted in Manipur Police Outpost, has said that the deceased had gone to Amikitra house of daughter Noni after crossing the river from her village on 9 October.

After meeting the daughter and her in-laws, he was returning to the village after having food. Due to earlier rains, the river was on the drain. The old man could not handle himself while trying to cross the drain amidst the strong current of water and after getting away, he got stuck in the bushes.

When the elderly did not return home until late in the evening, the relatives approached Noni's in-laws. His concern was further aggravated when he received information about leaving home after eating food from there. After a continuous search, the body of the old man was found in the bushes and it was informed to the Manipur Police by the son of the elder, Tejram Kentwant, after which the body has been handed over to the family after the post-mortem.
