Imphal: The Manipur government has suspended internet services across the state for five days to contain the rising communal tension after a vehicle was set on fire by 3-4 people on Saturday. In fact, according to the order issued by Special Secretary (Home) H Gyan Prakash, some anti-social elements are trying to provoke public anger by spreading inflammatory messages on social media. After the vehicle caught fire on Saturday evening, the District Magistrate of Bishnupur immediately imposed Section 144 of the CrPC for two months in the Valley. At the same time, the measure to control the unrest in the state further added to the woes of the people, who were already facing problems due to the economic blockade imposed on national highways by the All Adivasi Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) on Friday morning.

Let us tell you that ATSUM is an effective organization for tribal students in the state. In fact, ATSUM is demanding the introduction of the Manipur (Hilly Areas) Autonomous District Council Bill, 2021 in the Assembly. At the same time, the Bill will ensure the autonomy of the hilly areas of the state, as well as enable the development of the hilly areas of Manipur in comparison to the Valley region. Mattei Lipun, an organisation based in the Valley, is said to have shut down its Imphal office of ATSUM after the lockdown was imposed.

In fact, Mattei Lipun claimed that the blockade targeted the valley area of the state. Let us know that the state government on August 2 decided to introduce the Manipur Hill Area Zilla Parishad 6th and 7th Amendment Bill. At the same time, the ATSUM suspects whether the bill introduced by the N Biren Singh government is in consonance with the bill proposed by the organisation or not and that is why the ATSUM has been completely closed since Tuesday in the tribal-dominated Kangpokpi and Senapati Hills since the introduction of the undeclared amendment bill.
