New Delhi: The Central Investigation Agency (CBI) told the High Court on Thursday that former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia is the main conspirator in the liquor scam. The CBI said that the statements of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders are an attempt to protect and defend Sisodia. The CBI made this argument while opposing Sisodia's bail plea in the High Court.

The probe agency has said that a deep-rooted and multi-layered conspiracy is involved in the case. Sisodia has been reluctant during the investigation. The CBI has said that Sisodia was found to be in close collusion with the executive and bureaucrats. The CBI has said that party associates holding high positions continue to make factually incorrect claims. They are trying to prove that Sisodia is a victim of political vendettas, and this is being done to influence the investigation.

The counsel for the CBI submitted that the Special Judge (CBI) has already taken cognizance of the offences and that the investigation is being adversely affected by making unwarranted and baseless allegations against the CBI, thereby influencing and harassing the witnesses in the case. Counsel submitted that a rebuttal to the said statements of these leaders during the press conference shows how the entire efforts of not only the applicant but also his party colleagues are here to save the accused.
