New Delhi: Polling for the first phase of assembly elections in Assam is being held today. Former PM Manmohan Singh has urged the people of Assam to choose a government that upholds the principles of constitution and democracy. Former PM Manmohan Singh said that society is being divided on the basis of religion, culture, and language, appealing to the people of Assam to vote for Congress.

Releasing a video message, Manmohan Singh told the people of Assam, "Today, I am speaking to one of you. Once again, the time has come to vote in the assembly elections. You should vote wisely. Your future and your children's future are in your hands. I appeal to you to vote for the Congress party and the Mahajot (Grand Alliance)."

Dr. Manmohan Singh said that Assam has been my second home for the last several years. It is an honor to me that I represented Assam in the Rajya Sabha for 28 years from 1991 to 2019. I am grateful for the affection and respect of the people of Assam. The people of Assam enabled me to serve as Union Finance Minister for five years and PM for 10 years.
