For your information,let us tell you that Prabodh Chandra Dey, popularly known as "Manna Day", was born on 1 May 1919 in East Kolkata to Mahamaya Dey and Purna Chandra. Manna Dey received his early education from a small pre-primary school, later went to Scottish Church Collegiate School and Scottish Church College and graduated from Vidyasagar College. Vidyasagar College is named after the famous social reformer of Bengal, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. Let me tell you that during his school days, Manna Dey used to sing only for entertainment. When Manna Dey started practicing with her uncle Krishna Chandra Dey and Ustad Dabir Khan, a famous veena player, Manna Dey started taking her singing practice seriously. As a result, Manna Dey won several singing competitions during her college days.
Manna Dey has started his career by singing in the year 1942. He started working with his uncle as an assistant music director, followed by Manna Dey, the famous musician S.K. Also got a chance to work with D. Burman. After working for a few more days, Manna Dey soon started working as a music director in Hindi films. However, now his desire for excellence had become stronger than ever and so he started practicing with Ustad Abdul Rahman Khan and Ustad Aman Ali Khan, famous for classical Hindustani music.
