Manoj Baitha, accused in the hit and run case of Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, has fled to Nepal if a report is to be believed. The report says that a special team of Muzaffarpur police has been searching the Sonabarsa area to find Manoj Baitha, all in vain.

Manoj Baitha, an ex-BJP leader was barred from membership in the political party after he was involved in the hit and run case. On Saturday, an SUV owned by Baitha rammed into a school building and ran over school children, killing nine of them. Since then, he is absconding.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of protecting Baitha from legal consequences of his action. In a statement, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav accused BJP and asked Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar to speak up on the issue.

“Why hasn't Manoj Baitha been arrested yet? News spread that he surrendered before police but we do not know that for sure. Only administration can say if he surrendered, was arrested or fled to Nepal,” said Yadav.

Yadav targeted CM Nitish Kumar and asked him if he has a conscience.

“Neither Nitish Kumar nor Sushil Modi have spoken on this or sought an apology yet. The government is trying to brush this under the carpet,” he added.

Staging protests against the delay in action against Baitha, many leaders disrupted proceedings of the Bihar state assembly on Tuesday. The assembly was adjourned for the day following the ruckus created.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar announced that he will not celebrate Holi this year in solidarity with the children killed.
