New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry is likely to hold informal talks with the world health organisation (WHO) representatives at the ongoing World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on the issue of additional COVID-19 mortality in India. People involved in this case have given this information. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is currently in Geneva with some of his cabinet colleagues to participate in the WEF.
During this time, Mandaviya is likely to raise the issue of who's a recent controversial claim. In fact, a few days ago, the WHO released the figures of deaths due to corona in India, which was much higher than the figures of the Government of India. It had been said that 47 lakh people had died in India between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2021, due to corona. According to official figures from the Government of India, the number is reported to be around 520,000.
A senior government official, while requesting anonymity, said, "There is a possibility that the Union Minister may discuss the issue with the WHO representatives in the WEF. This has been the subject of controversy recently; When the WHO released the figures, the government had clearly stated that it did not agree with the way more deaths from Covid were estimated. India can now discuss this issue in person with the WHO.''
