Today is Guru Nanak Jayanti. In such a day, there are many stories related to Guru Nanak which are heard because people get a different inspiration from them. In such a situation, today we have brought a story that will inspire you.
Guru Nanak Jayanti - Once Guru Nanak went to Panipat, where a famous Sufi Fakir named Shahsharf lived. Shahsharf asked Guru Nanak Dev, 'Why are you wearing clothes like householder and you have not shaved your head like ascetics? Nanak Dev replied, 'Shallow mind needs to be shaved, not head and only mind can be shaved by being humble. The person who wears his happiness, taste and ego and falls at the rate of God, God accepts whatever clothes he wears. The cloak and hat of the dervish is that he should imbibe divine knowledge in his soul.
Whoever wins the mind, remains the same in happiness and sorrow and wanders in a comfortable state at all times, for him all manner of disguise is beautiful. Sufi Fakir Shahsharf asked, 'What is your caste, what is your opinion, how do you survive? On this Guru Nanak Dev Ji said, 'My opinion is Reality, my caste is the same as that of fire and air, which considers enemy-friend alike. My life is like a tree and earth. Like a river, I do not care if someone throws dust at me or flowers and I understand the living being, whose lifelike sandalwood is spreading its fragrance in the world by rubbing it for others".
On hearing this, Shahsharf said- Who is Darvesh? Nanak said, 'Who remained alive like dead. He kept sleeping while awake, kept on plundering himself on purpose. Those who do not get angry, do not boast. Do not be unhappy yourself, do not hurt anyone. One who is always engrossed in God and hears the one who speaks God from inside and sees the same inner God in every person, everywhere. Shahsharf was very happy to hear this.
