Many roads in Uttarakhand blocked, people affected heavily

Dehradun: The rain, which began late on Wednesday night, stopped in the early hours of Thursday, but landslides and debris blocked 21 roads in Chamoli, including the Badrinath highway. In Uttarakhand, the Meteorological Centre has predicted heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm squalls in Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital and Almora districts today. However, the weather is still clear in the state.

In Chamoli district, 21 rural roads have been blocked due to rains. The Badrinath Highway has been blocked since late in the night at Taiya Bridge and Khachra Nallah near Lambgarh. Here the JCB machines of BRO (Border Roads Organisation) are engaged in opening the highways. At the same time, due to the closure of the Birhi-Nijmulla road, the movement of trains has also come to a halt in the villages of Nijmula valley. In Pokhari, Tharali, Dewal, Karanprayag, and Gauchar also, the villagers have to travel a long distance due to the blocking of roads.

On the other hand, Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway is blocked since morning at Sirohabgarh. Traffic is being operated through other alternative motorways. For the past week, the highway has been closing down on the day of Sirohabgarh. The highway in the affected area is about two kilometres in a bad shape. Other link motorways related to highways are also in a bad shape. In Mussoorie town also, late-night rains brought debris at several places on the Mussoorie-Dehradun road. The heavy boulders and debris that fell on the road were removed by Lonivi by installing a JCB machine.
