Kolkata: An Eastern Railway official said on Wednesday that train services in the Ranaghat-Lalgola section of Sealdah division were disrupted for more than 24 hours due to an obstruction by a group of people at Jalalkhali Halt station in Nadia district, demanding that all trains passing through it be stopped. Residents of around 15 villages in the area rely on train services from the station, according to the agitators, who have been squatting on the tracks since Tuesday morning. However, only a few trains stop there.

Eastern Railway spokesperson Ekalabya Chakraborty said, "We are holding discussions with the agitators to lift the protest so that services can be normalised." He claimed that because Jalalkhali is a halt station, all trains would not be able to stop there. The agitators have been offered a few more train stops at the halt station, according to Chakraborty.

Due to the agitation, he said, 12 EMU locals on the Sealdah-Krishnanagar line and at least two express trains between Sealdah and Lalgola were cancelled on Wednesday. According to him, at least six pairs of EMU locals were short-terminated at Badkulla station and then short-originated to Sealdah.
