Raipur: After Maoists released a threatening press note and posters, a Naxal carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head was killed following an exchange of fire with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district on Sunday. One 8 mm pistol, a country-made gun, 2 kg of IED and other items were recovered from the encounter site.
The incident happened in a forested patch of Gaadam and Jungampal in Dantewada district, 450 km south of state capital Raipur, they said.
“In an exchange of fire between Dantewada DRG and Maoists of Katekalyan area committee at around 2pm between jungles of Gaadam and Jungampal, a Maoist’s body, Vetti Hunga, militia commander, was recovered,” IGP (Bastar) Sundarraj P said.
He said more Maoists are suspected to have been either killed or seriously injured. “One 8 mm pistol and a country-made muzzle loading gun was recovered. Also, a 2kg IED, crackers, 2 pithoo with Maoist literature, medicines and items of daily were also found at the encounter site,” Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallava said. Separately, Maoists set fire to 5 construction vehicles engaged in a water filter plant in Nai med police station limits of Bijapur, IG Bastar said.
