Bollywood's well-known actress Rani Mukerji's Mardaani 2 ended the first week of release on a high note. The film, which hit the screens on December 13, is the actress' most successful film in the last few years. Directed by Gopi Puthran, the film has crossed the Rs 28 crore mark.

Mardaani opened with Rs 3.80 crore on Friday. It rose to Rs 6.55 crore and Rs 7.80 crore on Saturday and Sunday. Monday was a dull day for the film at the box office as it grossed just Rs 2.85 crore. The collections fell on Tuesday and Wednesday as Mardaani 2 was able to earn 2.65 crores and 2.25 crores respectively. On Thursday, it did a business of Rs 2.15 crore, taking the total collection to Rs 28.05 crore in the first week of the film.

Mardaani 2 outperforms Rani Mukerji's previous two releases Hichki and Mardaani. While after Week 1, Mardani had collected Rs 28.05 crore, Hichki and Mardani could earn Rs 26.10 crore and Rs 22.97 crore respectively in their first week. Mardaani 2 is the sequel to Rani Mukerji's 2014 film of the same name. The first film was directed by Pradeep Sarkar, though the second film is directed by Gopi Puthran. Interestingly, Gopi Putheran was the author of the first film.
