On Monday's, (July 17), trading session, the Nifty and Sensex, the domestic benchmark indices, continued their impressive performance, touching new records. Despite concerns of an economic downturn in major economies due to weak global cues, particularly after China's release of its second-quarter growth data, both indices managed to surge ahead.

Significantly, both key indices achieved new closing highs and intraday record highs. Sensex concluded the day at its fresh closing peak of 66,589.93, marking a remarkable increase of 529 points or 0.80%. Similarly, the Nifty also experienced a surge, closing at its fresh high of 19,711.45, representing a gain of 147 points or 0.75%.

It is worth noting that small caps outperformed other categories, primarily due to their attractive valuations, which remained below the long-term average when compared to large and mid-caps. Vinod Nair, the Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, expressed optimism about this trend.
