Indian equity market benchmark index Sensex plunged 525 points on Monday, led by losses in index majors HDFC, Bank, HDFC (Housing), Tata Steel and ICICI Bank amid a selloff in global markets.
At close, the BSE Sensex index ended 524.96 points or 0.89 percent lower at 58,490.93. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty tumbled 188.25 points or 1.07 percent to 17,396.90. Tata Steel was the top loser in the Sensex pack, followed by SBI, IndusInd Bank, HDFC, Dr. Reddy’s and Mahindra and Mahindra. JSW Steel, Hindalco, UPL, Bharat Petroleum,  Eicher Motors, HDFC, Indian Oil, Dr Reddy's Labs, HDFC Life, Adani Ports, Shree Cements and Coal India also fell between 2-8 per cent.  On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Finserv, ITC and HCL Tech were among the gainers.
Sectorally,  Nifty Metal index declined over 5 per cent fall. Nifty PSU Bank, Private Bank, Healthcare, Pharma, Financial Services and Bank indices also fell between 1.5-3.6 per cent. Mid- and small-cap shares also faced intense selling pressure as Nifty Midcap 100 index dropped 2.2 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index tumbled 1.73 per cent.
Interest will have to be paid by the Taxpayers even after the date of ITR filing is extended.
