Market Closing: Sensex falls 90 pts, Nifty below 17,250

The BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty50 indexes closed flat on Wednesday’s volatile session. Concerns regarding the Omicron variaint of COVID-19 caused investors around the world to be cautious.

The Sensex was down 90.99 points, or 0.16 percent, at 57,806.49 at the closing, while the Nifty was down 19.70 points, or 0.11 percent, at 17,213.60. Around 1969 shares have increased in value, 1317 shares have declined, and 96 shares have remained steady.

The top Nifty gainers included Eicher Motors, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Auto, IndusInd Bank, and Divis Labs. ITC, SBI, Coal India, Tech Mahindra, and Grasim Industries were among the losers. Sun Pharma was the prominant gainer among the Sensex pack of stocks, rising up 2.5 per cent, after the company announced its plans to set-up an end-to-end manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the Indian rupee lost three paise versus the US dollar today in the currency market, settling at 74.73 (provisional) against the greenback amid sluggish domestic stocks and weaker global indications.
