Market Closing: Sensex gains 308 points; Nifty clocks at 15,436

Indian market benchmark index  BSE Sensex rallied 308 points and NSE Nifty hit a fresh record on Friday, tracking gains in index heavyweights Reliance, HDFC (Housing), HDFC Bank  and Kotak Bank amid positive cues from global markets. On weekly basis,  Sensex and Nifty gained 1.7 percent each.

On closing, Sensex ended 307.66 points higher at 51,422.88. The broader NSE Nifty surged 97.80 points to close at its fresh peak of 15,435.65. Reliance Industries was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, soaring nearly 6 percent, followed by M&M, HDFC twins, Kotak Bank, ITC and Bharti Airtel. On the other hand, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finserv, ICICI Bank and Dr Reddy were among the laggards. Except for pharma and IT, all other sectoral indices ended in the green. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices ended marginally lower.

 Buying was visible across sectors as eight of 11 sector gauges compiled by the NSE ended higher led by the Nifty PSU bank index's nearly 1 percent gain. Energy, infrastructure, metal, financial services and private banking shares also witnessed buying interest.

Stock exchanges in Europe were also trading with gains in mid-session deals. International oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.25 percent higher at USD 69.
