Market Closing: Sensex rallies 383 points; Nifty cross 18,250

Indian share market benchmark Sensex surged 383 points on Tuesday, buoyed by Reliance Industries, Kotak Bank and Bajaj Finance amid positive trends in global markets.

At close, The BSE Sensex ended 383.21 points or 0.63 percent higher at 61,350.26. whereas, the NSE Nifty surged 143 points or 0.79 percent to 18,268.40. Tata Steel was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, climbing around 4  percent, followed by Titan, Bajaj Finance, Nestle India and Tech Mahindra. Conversely,  IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, PowerGrid, HUL, Dr Reddy’s and TCS were among the losers.

All sectoral indices also ended in the positive territory. The BSE Realty index rose 3.4  percent, followed by a near 3- percent gain in the BSE Consumer Durables and Metal indices. The Auto and Energy index also climbed 2 percent. The overall breadth too was positive, with 2,224 advancing shares versus 1,051 declining stocks on the BSE.

Stock exchanges in Europe were also trading on a positive note in mid-session deals. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude slipped 0.29 percent to $84.92 per barrel.
