Key benchmark BSE index rallied 383 points to close at a fresh record on June 3, led by gains in HDFC Bank, Larsen &Turbo and Titan despite a largely negative trend in global markets. At close, the BSE Sensex ended 383 points or higher at 52,232.43, while the NSE NSE Nifty soared 114.15 points to end at its lifetime peak of 15,690.35.
Titan was the top gainer in the Sensex pack followed by ONGC, L&T, Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance and HDFC Bank. On the downside, IndusInd Bank, PowerGrid, Bajaj Auto, M&M and Dr. Reddy’s were among the laggards.
Stocks in Infrastructure, metal, FMCG, energy, and banking all saw buying, while pharma stocks remained under pressure. With a percent gain, the BSE Midcap index also reached a new high, while the Smallcap index gained 1 percent. Among realty stocks, top outperformers were Oberoi Realty, Prestige, DLF, and IBrealestate were among the top outperformers, with new long positions added.
Meanwhile International oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.18 percent lower at USD71.22 per barrel. Crude oil prices pulled back from their strong rallies of the previous two days that was driven by hopes of improved demand going forward as major oil producers opt for supply regulation.
