Indian equity markets have opened a little higher in today's morning session, with the Nifty touching at 13280 levels. The BSE Sensex traded 71 points higher at 45,149 while the NSE Nifty 50 index is stood at 13,279 up by 72 points in trade at around 9.30-hrs.. Both Sensex and Nifty recorded their fifth consecutive weekly advance on Friday - their longest weekly winning streak since July.
All sectoral indices also have opened flat and gradually moved into positive territory in today's session. The Nifty Media index is up 0.1% while the PSU Bank index has gained 0.4%.
Broader markets have opened higher and are outperforming the benchmarks at the start of trade. The Nifty Midcap index is up 0.4% while the Smallcap index has gained 0.5% at the start of trade.
Among early gainers in trade today are Gail Inda, ONGC, Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel, and ICICI Bank while laggards are HDFC Bank, Hindalco, Divis Labs, Kotak Bank and Titan company.
Meantime, Asian indices are trading weak with Nikkei, Hang Seng, and Straits Times all on a weak note. This was after reports suggest that the US was preparing to impose sanctions.
