Indian stock market benchmark index Sensex dropped 135 points on Wednesday, weighed by losses in index majors HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries and Kotak Bank.

At close, the BSE Sensex ended 135.05 points lower at 52,443.71, while the Nifty of the National Stock Exchage slipped 37.05 points 15,709.40. Kotak Bank was the top loser in the Sensex pack, falling over 2 percent, followed by Dr Reddy’s, M&M, PowerGrid, NTPC, Nestle India and HDFC Bank. Conversely,  Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank and Bajaj Finserv were among the gainers.

ON the Nifty,  PSU Bank index closed down 1.88 percent at 2372.1 today. Canara Bank fell 3.73 percent, Bank of Maharashtra slipped 3.59 percent and Jammu and Kashmir Bank Ltd dropped 3.32 percent.. In other indices, Nifty Metal index increased 1.22 percent and Nifty Auto index is down 0.93 percent on the day. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude advanced 0.76 percent to USD74.08 per barrel.
