Market Closing Bell: After fluctuating between gains and losses during the day on Wednesday due to weakness in international bourses, equity indexes managed to scrape out a small gain to close in the green.
The 30-share BSE Sensex increased 54.13 points or 0.09 percent to close at 59,085.43 in a volatile trading. It fluctuated throughout the day from a high of 59,170.87 to a low of 58,760.09. Similarly, NSE Nifty50 rose by 27.45 points, or 0.16%, to reach 17,604.95.
The largest gainers from the Sensex pack included IndusInd Bank, NTPC, Larsen & Toubro, ICICI Bank, Power Grid, HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Asian Paints. On the other hand, some of the notable laggards included State Bank of India, Titan, Sun Pharma, Tata Consultancy Services, and Steel.
International Markets: Asia's markets saw weaker settlements in Shanghai, Tokyo, and Hong Kong, while Seoul finished in the black. During mid-session trades, stock markets in Europe were trading lower. Wall Street had a lower Tuesday night closing.
In the meantime, the benchmark Brent crude price increased globally by 1.04 percent to USD 101.3 per barrel. According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased shares on Tuesday for Rs 563 crore.
