Stock markets witnessed a strong day with the Nifty hitting above 13000 marks for the first-ever time. The NSE Nifty closing at 13055, up 128.7 or 1 percent while BSE  Sensex stood strong by 445.87 points at 44523. Gainers in today's trade are Adani Ports, Mahindra and Mahindra, Axis Bank, Hindalco and Eicher Motors.  On the other hand, losers have been Titan Company, Shree Cements, HDFC, Bharti Airtel and Bharat petroleum (BPCL).

Nifty Realty rose 2 percent after the state of Maharashtra proposed a reduction in Floor Space Index. In today's HDFC Bank hit a one-year-high as CLSA raised its target price.

Midcap financial stocks such as Ujjivan, Equitas & IDFC Ltd were among the top outperformers, posting an intraday rally of nearly 20%. Nifty Midcap 100 index outperformed the benchmark index, closing 1.3% higher.

Bank Nifty as a whole was buzzing in trade with gains of up to 2.42 percent towards the later part of the trade. The auto stock also rose with major gainers being Mahindra and Mahindra which also made its new one year high.  Shares in Gland Pharma  seen weak after strong gains of 45 percent since listing on Friday.

Meanwhile, European markets were trading in the green with French CAC up by over 1 percent following strong global cues. Also US stock futures Dow was up by as much as 0.86 percent pointing to a high opening for the markets there.
