Markets crack, Nifty Below 14300 Levels

Indian equity benchmark indices ended at the day's low, beginning the new trading week on a negative note. The BSE Sensex slipped 470 points lower at 48,564 while the NSE Nifty 50 index declined 152 to end at 14,281. both the indices, however,  ended 160 and 60 points higher than their respective day's low.

Among other indices, The Nifty Pharma, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Realty, Nifty Media and Nifty Auto, all witnessed losses in excess of 2%. The I.T. index fell 1.7% while the Nifty Bank index ended 1.3% lower.

The broader markets were the worst sufferers in day today with losses of over 2 percent on the Nifty Midcap 100 index.  Major gainers in trade today are UPL, Reliance, HDFC Bank, ITC and Titan company, while losers in the session include Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Hindalco, ONGC and Sun Pharma.

Reliance Industries gains over 2.47 pc and recorded day's high price of Rs. 1997 per unit as the company decides to embed Jiomart site on the Whatsapp site.

Elsewhere, crude oil prices after jumping to an 11-month high in the previous week as demand again is being questioned on rising coronavirus infection.
