Markets pause a four-day surge among mixed global cues

MARKET CLOSING UPDATES: After a four-day rise, benchmark indices finished lower on Wednesday amid a choppy trend in the world equities markets.

The 30-share BSE Sensex had a good start, but it was unable to hold onto its gains and finished 215.26 points, or 0.35 percent, lower, at 60,906.09. It decreased by 326.96 points or 0.53 percent throughout the day to reach 60,794.39. similarly, the broader NSE Nifty dropped 62.55 points, or 0.34 percent, to finish at 18,082.85.

The Sensex pack's main laggards included Bharti Airtel, Maruti, Hindustan Unilever, Infosys, HCL Technologies, IndusInd Bank, and Titan. Sun Pharma, ITC, Tech Mahindra, Dr. Reddy's, and Reliance Industries, on the other hand, were among the winners.

INTERNATIONAL MARKETS:  Markets in Seoul, Shanghai, and Hong Kong closed higher on other Asian exchanges, but Tokyo's closed lower. In mid-session trades, stock exchanges in Europe were trading with a mixed bag of sentiment. On Tuesday, Wall Street recorded a negative closing price.

CRUDE OIL: Benchmark Brent crude for world markets was up 0.17 percent at USD 94.81 a barrel.
According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net purchasers on Tuesday, purchasing shares worth Rs. 2,609.94 crore.
