Markets reverse Trend, Sensex-Nifty Snap 6-Day Winning Streak

benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty reversed the trend and snapped a six-day winning streak, settling marginally lower on Thursday.

The 30-share BSE Sensex index slipped marginally on Thursday, losing 51.73 points, or 0.09 percent, to close at 58,298.80. The broader NSE Nifty also declined slightly, losing 0.04 percent to close at 17,382, snapping a run of six consecutive days of advances.

"After six sessions of advances, profit-taking finally became evident as rate-sensitive industries like banking and real estate struggled ahead of the RBI's policy meeting on Friday. Key indexes somewhat recovered most of their losses toward the end as sentiment was boosted by strength in other Asian and European indices.

On Wednesday, the Sensex increased 214.17 points or 0.37 percent, the first time the index closed in the negative in the previous seven trading days.

Today, Reliance Industries Limited, closed 1.32 percent lower at Rs 2,571.40. To Rs. 154.80, NTPC fell 3.10 percent. Axis Bank declined by 1.17 percent to Rs. 721.75 and Kotak Bank by 0.88 percent to Rs. 1,835.10. State Bank of India decreased by 1.46 percent to Rs. 532.90. IndusInd Bank fell by 0.77 percent to Rs. 1,050.10, and ICICI Bank finished the day at Rs. 819.85, down 0.59 percent.

Major Sensex gainers were Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Wipro, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services and ITC. Sun Pharma rose 2.46 percent to Rs. 919. Nestle India rose 2.39 percent to Rs. 19834.80. Infosys jumped 2.20 percent to Rs. 1599.65.
