Maruti hikes up the costs up to 17 thousand rupees

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), the country's largest automobile company, on Wednesday said it has hiked its cars prices by up to Rs 17,000. The company has said that it is increasing this due to the rise in commodity, administrative and distribution cost.

The company has reported that it has hiked the prices of different models from Rs 1,700 to Rs 17,000. The prices of the models which have been increased include Alto to utility vehicles Vitra Braja and S-Cross.   

Increased price is effective from 10th January. This increase in the prices of different models will come into effect from January 10. The company had said last month that it will raise prices of its models from January.   

Earlier, Tata Motors had increased the prices of its trains by up to 25 thousand rupees on one January. Various companies such as Hyundai Motor India, Honda Cars, Mahindra and Mahindra have also announced to increase the prices of their vehicles this month.   

Maruti's latest offering Vitara Breza has launched in March 2016 at Rs 6.99 lakh. The SUV is competing with Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300, besides being pitched against Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta which are priced in the range of Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 13.77 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Vitara Breeza was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016. 

Maruti launched Baleno in October 2015 at Rs 4.99 lakh, which now has a waiting period of almost 6 months.  Maruti last raised prices of its models by up to Rs 34,494 in order to offset the impact of infrastructure cess proposed in the Union Budget 2016-17.
