According to a media reporter, earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki announced an early shutdown of its diesel cars. The company hoped that after this announcement other diesel car making companies would also follow it. But most of all diesel carmakers have not decided on the cars of this segment. Hence, most companies indicated that they would continue to manufacture diesel cars. Experts say that Maruti has made up its mind to continue with its diesel engine car in view of the sluggish attitude from other companies.

Recently, Maruti has started work on the 1.5-liter diesel engine under BS-VI. Currently, companies like Hyunda, Mahindra and Tata are in the market for diesel cars. The company had last announced its intention to apply its brakes on diesel cars, announcing that the diesel variants in their cars, Ciaz, Ertiga, S-Cross and Vitara Brezza would be scrapped. The company also said that keeping in view the environment, Maruti will stop manufacturing diesel engines by April 1, 2021.
