One of the biggest carmaker Maruti Suzuki confirmed on Saturday that its car prices have increased by up to 4.3 percent with immediate effect. This, according to the automaker, is due to an increase in input prices, which it intends to offset in part. The price increases ranged from 0.1 percent to 4.3 percent throughout the portfolio. The automaker reported in a regulatory filing that its share price had increased by 7%. The new price increase includes 3 price increases by Maruti last year. Prices were raised by 1.4 percent in January, 1.6 percent in April, and 1.9 percent in September, bringing the total rise to 4.9 percent.

Recently the carmaker announced last month that it has been had to raise prices owing to increases in the cost of critical commodities including steel, aluminium, copper, plastic, and precious metals during the previous year.

The auto industry has been hit by a number of challenges, including a scarcity of semiconductor chips and other parts. In December of last year, this resulted in a 2% drop in output at Maruti Suzuki's factories. Last month, the firm produced 1,52,029 units, compared to 1,55,127 units in the same time the previous year. While overall passenger car production was 1,48,767 units last month, it was 1,53,475 units in December 2020.
