India’s leading automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India will raise prices of its vehicles across models in September to pass on the impact of rising input costs to its customers, the company said.

The largest manufacturer of four-wheelers in India said it has become imperative to undertake price hikes on the back of consistent increases in raw material prices. The company did not reveal the quantum of the hikes, which will be its fourth price increase this calendar year. The company raised the prices of its vehicles by 1.3 percent in January and another 1.6percent in April.

In July, the company raised prices by up to 15,000 rupees for the Swift sub-brand and all compressed natural gas variants. During the Apr-Jun post-earnings conference call, the company's management had said it was increasing prices gradually, but there was a limit to how many times it could raise prices without disrupting demand. The decision to raise prices comes amid production challenges due to the shortage of semiconductors.
