Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker, has announced the opening of its 5,000th service touchpoint, marking a significant expansion of its service network. This milestone comes as the company plans to bolster its service infrastructure to match its projected sales growth in the coming years.
Plans for Future Expansion
Maruti Suzuki aims to double its production capacity to 4 million units annually by the fiscal year 2031. This includes an estimated 3 million units for the domestic market and 750,000-800,000 units for export.
Landmark Opening in Gurugram
The 5,000th service touchpoint, located in Gurugram, Haryana, was inaugurated by Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki. The company's extensive service network now spans 2,500 cities across India.
Significant Growth in Service Network
Ram Suresh Akella, Maruti Suzuki's Executive Officer of Service, noted that the company added 400 service touchpoints in the past financial year, the highest annual addition to date. Many of these new centers are in non-urban areas. "Through our vast service network, we serviced a record 25 million vehicles last financial year," Akella said.
Historical Growth of Service Network
Maruti Suzuki opened its first service workshop in 1983. By 1997, it had reached 1,000 service touchpoints. The network expanded by another 1,000 in the next nine years, and then continued to grow by 1,000 touchpoints every 8 to 7 years. Remarkably, the latest 1,000 service touchpoints were established in just three years.
