New Delhi: Concerns about Corona have once again started to arise in India. The Health Ministry is reviewing the pandemic situation in the country amid the recent surge in cases of corona infection in countries like Japan, South Korea, Brazil, China, and America. A meeting of the Ministry of Health is going on regarding the corona situation in the country. According to sources, new guidelines may be issued in view of Christmas and New Year celebrations, in which wearing masks may be made mandatory in public places, offices, and while traveling.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Health Ministry requested all states and Union Territories to increase genome sequencing of samples found infected to monitor the new strain of the virus. In a letter to states and Union Territories, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said such an exercise will enable the timely detection of the new variant of the virus in the country and ensure necessary public health measures.
With a focus on testing-surveillance-treatment-vaccination and adherence to COVID-appropriate behavior, India has been able to limit the spread of coronavirus infection with around 1,200 cases being reported on a weekly basis, the Union Health Secretary said. Bhushan said the public health challenge of coronavirus still persists across the world with close to 3.5 million cases being reported weekly.
