Pune: A massive fire broke out inside the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Pune on Friday afternoon. Four fire brigade vehicles have been sent to the spot to douse the flames. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. According to reports, one student sustained minor injuries. The fire seems to have started from a laboratory of the Department of Chemistry located on the first floor of the main IISER-Pune building.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. According to the Chief Fire Officer of Pune Fire Department, the fire broke out in the laboratory around 1 pm, which stores organic chemicals. The damage caused by the fire and the possible cause of the fire are yet to be ascertained.

He further said, "That is what we are coordinating with the officers of the Institute who started a preliminary effort to douse the fire before the fire brigade's cart reached the spot." A student working in the same lab suffered minor injuries and has been sent to the hospital for treatment. The lab was operational at the time of the accident. An ISIER-Pune official said smoke is still emanating from the building.
