HYDERABAD: Telangana ministers and other officials of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) held state-wide rallies on Wednesday in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments in Parliament about Andhra Pradesh's bifurcation.

Hundreds of cadres took to the streets in Hyderabad and 32 other districts of the state, alleging that the Prime Minister insulted the Telangana people's movement.

TRS leaders, including ministers and lawmakers, held protests in Assembly seats and mandal headquarters in response to a request from TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao. The leaders were outraged by Modi's remarks in the Rajya Sabha during a debate on a resolution of gratitude for the President's address to Parliament. The BJP attempted to prevent protestors from lighting fire to effigies, causing conflict in a few locations.

Protesters burned effigies of the BJP while shouting "BJP down!" and "Modi down!" and waving black flags. The demonstrators wore black scarves and tossed black balloons into the air.

The rallies in the state capital were headed by state Home Minister Mahmood Ali and Animal Husbandry Minister T. Srinivas Yadav, who requested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise to the people of Telangana for denigrating the movement.
