Every year the festival of Sita Navami is celebrated with great pomp. Sita Navami is on tomorrow or May 2 and this festival is also called Janaki Navami. Goddess Sita has always been known for her sacrifice and as the daughter of King Janak and the princess of Mithila has faced many lepers in her life but never shied away from her duties. On the 2nd of May, the Navami of Goddess Sita is going to be celebrated. There is a belief that Goddess Sita was born on this day. Goddess Sita is known for her sacrifice and in the Treta Yuga, Sita Maa was married to Lord Shri Rama, the eldest son of King Dasaratha of Ayodhya. Only after marriage, Goddess Sita had to go for 14 years of exile with Lord Ram. The eldest daughter of King Janak, the goddess of Mithila, had three sisters and they are also mentioned in the Valmiki Ramayana. According to Valmiki Ramayana, Goddess Sita has a sister, Urmila, the second was Mandvi and the third was Shrutakirti, who was the daughter of King Janak's younger brother Kushdhwaj.

Urmila - According to Valmiki Ramayana, Urmila was the younger sister of GoddessSita and while Sita was married to Rama's eldest son Rama, Urmila was married to Lakshman, Ram's younger brother.


Mandvi - Sita's sister Mandvi was married to Dasaratha's son Bharata and Mandvi was the daughter of King Janak's younger brother Kushadhwaj. Mandvi would have lived as a Sadhvi. It is said that Bharata lived not in Ayodhya but in Nandigram, and Mandvi was fully respectful of her devotion to her husband's brother.
