"Mature Relationship" between RBI and central government says Finance Minister
Share:

Finance Minister Arun Jaitely while speaking on an event organised by Indian Women's Press Corps refused to comment on the possibility of Raghuram Rajan, RBI governor continuing for a second term. He said that the reserve bank and central government share a mature relationship. He said "As far as the Finance Ministry and RBI are concerned, there is an institutional relationship between the two. It is a very mature relationship. We at the highest level at the two institutions have discussion and each other views is considered between us."

Mr. Rajan, who is about to complete his term as RBI governor showed interest in continuing holding the post as he said on May 13 that he had enjoyed his job but there was more left to do. Last week, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy accused Rajan for unemployment and collapse of industrial activities in the country.

While speaking to reporters outside the parliament, he said "In my opinion, the RBI Governor is not appropriate for the country. I don't want to speak much about him. He has hiked interest rates in the garb of controlling inflation that has damaged the country... The sooner he is sent back to Chicago, the better it would be."
