Shillong: Independent MLA from Mawphlang assembly constituency, SK Sun, who was unwell for some time, passed away at his residence in Mawangp. After winning the 2018 assembly election as an independent candidate, Syntar-Klas-Sunn later joined the United Democratic Party (UDP) as an associate member. Before contesting the assembly elections, Sun was holding the post of Chief Engineer of PHE Department, Meghalaya House for many years. According to sources, Sun was undergoing treatment and was keeping unwell for some time.

According to another news, the Meghalaya government shared an order on its official Twitter handle. The tweet read, "Killing of stray dogs or pet dogs and killing dogs for meat is prohibited in the state of Meghalaya." The Meghalaya government ordered that the killing of stray dogs or domesticated dogs and the slaughter of dogs for meat is prohibited in the state of Meghalaya. Any person contravening this order shall be punished under sections 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code and section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and/or such other provisions of the law.

The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, which comes under the Meghalaya government, had issued an order on 9 September 2021 demanding a ban on the killing of all types of dogs.
