Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former UP CM Mayawati on Friday hit out at the Central government over the backward class caste census. Mayawati said on the Central government's affidavit filed in the Supreme Court that BJP's OBC politics has been exposed. Mayawati's response comes after the Central government told the Supreme Court that the caste census of backward classes is "administratively difficult and cumbersome" and that excluding such information from the purview of the census is a "conscious policy decision."

BSP supremo Mayawati tweeted, "The central government's categorical refusal to conduct the caste census of backward classes by filing an affidavit in the Hon'ble Supreme Court is very serious and over-thinking, which highlights the difference between exposing and saying and doing OBC politics of BJP's electoral interests. Awareness is essential.''

The former CM further wrote, "Like SCs and STs, the demand for caste census of OBC category has gained momentum across the country, but the Centre's categorical denial of this is hurting the entire society and hurting their future in the same way as not filling their backlog in jobs.''
