New Delhi: The Government of India has included 12 top players in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme. These include legends like Mary Kom, Praneeth and young shooter Yashaswani Singh Deswal. Six-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Mary Kom is among 10 boxers who were brought to the top for the 2020 Olympics after a meeting by the Sports Olympic Authority's Mission Olympic Unit.

Amit Panghal (Male 52kg), Sonia Chahal (Female 57kg), Neeraj (Female 57kg), Nikhat Zareen (Female 51kg), Kavinder Singh Bisht (Male 57kg), Lovlina Borgohain (Female 69kg), Vikas Krishna (Male 75 kg), Shiva Thapa (Male 63 kg) and Manish Kaushik (Male 63 kg) are the other nine boxers who were added to the Topps list.

The committee also included 22-year-old shooter Yashaswini who won the gold medal at the ISSF World Cup Women's 10m Pistol event in Rio de Janeiro earlier this month and gave India Olympic quota. He also won the silver medal in the mixed team event.

Badminton star Sai Praneeth won the bronze at the World Championship last month, making him the first Indian male singles player to win a medal in this competition in 36 years. Due to this performance, Praneeth reached the 15th position in the world rankings and is the second player from India at this time. A country can send two badminton players to each singles event in the Olympics.
