Ottawa: Canada is currently reeling under severe heat wave (Heat wave in Canada) and the death toll is steadily rising this summer. According to data released by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the City Police Department, at least 134 deaths have been reported in Vancouver since Friday. The Vancouver Police Department said 65 people have died suddenly since Friday. 

According to Environment Canada, The Liton of British Columbia, located 250 km west of Vancouver on Thursday, recorded a record 49.5 degrees celsius for the third consecutive day, a record so far. Police officer Steve Edition said, 'Such heat has never hit Vancouver, a large number of people have died'. Local corporation officials have also reported death, but have not yet released the death toll. According to reports, climate change is causing severe heat. Internationally, 2019 was the hottest year and the five hottest years have been recorded during the last 15 years.

Portland, the largest city in the United States, is reeling under severe heat and all heat records collapsed in the city last Saturday. Meteorologists said that residents of the city may face the worst heat in history. The mercury has risen considerably by increasing heat wave in the city. The supply of portable air conditioners and wings fallen short of demand, hospitals have closed out vaccination camps, cooling centres have opened in cities and baseball tournaments have been cancelled.
