Gurugram: The Gurugram Municipal Corporation (MCG) is likely to issue an order to close meat shops for nine days on the festival of Navratri from September 26 to October 5. The corporation employee who is aware of the matter has told about this. Most owners of 129 licensed meat shops in Gurugram voluntarily close shop shutters during the festival. At the same time, some do this due to security, because in the past, the right-wing group had forcibly closed their shops.

However, this will be the first time the MCG will issue an official decree directing the closure of meat shops. According to Vijaypal Yadav, joint commissioner of MCG, which oversees meat-related matters, 35 teams will be formed to keep an eye on meat shops over the course of nine days. During this period, a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed against those whose shops will be open for violating the order.

Yadav has said that 'MCG will probably issue an order in this regard today (Saturday) in which meat shop owners across the city will be ordered to close their shops during Navratri. Those violating the order will be fined, and the MCG may even seal their shop for repeated violations. Ward wise teams have been formed for this.'
