SC to hear plea over migrant workers' miseries amid lockdown

New Delhi: During the lockdown, migrant workers have suffered a lot. Senior social worker Medha Patkar has filed a PIL in the apex court regarding the migrant crisis. He has said in his petition that a common platform should be created, which can be used for ticketing system by all the migrants.

The petition has also requested not to be subject to the consent of the state for the provision of trains. The petition has demanded a provision of shelter homes and food for the migrants returning on foot. Along with this, there has been a demand for financial assistance to migrant laborers and for the employment scheme after lockdown. Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court took automatic cognizance of the problems of migrant workers stranded from different parts of the country due to Coronavirus lockdown. Taking the cognizance of the workers' woes, a bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice MR Shah has asked the Center, state governments and union territories to respond by May 28.

On 28 May, he has to tell the court what steps he has taken so far to get control of this situation. A public interest litigation has been filed in the apex court regarding treatment amid Corona's growing infection. This PIL has demanded that the cost of treatment of corona in private hospitals across the country should be minimal and charitable trusts do it on a no-profit basis.
