In 2021, medical service has covered all the nursing institutions in Beijing, with 200 institutions integrated both elderly care and medical services, providing a total of 61,500 beds for the elders, according to the city's health commission.

It is estimated that Beijing's aged population will increase by 1 million during China's 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). The number is expected to reach 5 million in 2025.

In order to solve the problem of medical treatment for the elderly, Beijing has actively promoted the construction of geriatrics departments in general hospitals and built elderly-friendly medical institutions.

So far, there are 471 elderly-friendly medical institutions in Beijing. A total of 275 community health service institutions have opened green channels to help the elderly seek medical treatment.

Beijing now has 18 rehabilitation hospitals and 248 medical institutions with rehabilitation medicine departments, providing a total of 8,432 rehabilitation beds.

In terms of home-based medical care, a total of 2,536 medical institutions in Beijing have offered door-to-door services.
