Mirabai Chanu is an Indian weightlifter who came into the limelight by winning a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Prior to this, in the 2017 World Championship held in the USA, she also got the gold medal. She has been awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, an award for sports by the government. Mirabai Chanu comes from Manipur, the northeastern province of India. Their participation, in any event, means a medal. She currently competes in the 49 kg weight class. She has brought laurels to India in many national and international events.
Let us know that Mirabai Chanu was born in Imphal, it is in eastern Manipur, and Mira was born on this day i.e. 8th August 1994. Mirabai Chanu belongs to a middle-lower class family. Her mother runs a shop. Her father is working in PWD. Not only this, Mirabai's father came to know about her talent in her childhood when Mirabai used to easily pick up the ringing bundle of wood, which was difficult for even the grown-ups. Mirabai was fond of weightlifting since her childhood.

In 2014, Mirabai won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow in the 48kg weight class.
Mirabai won a gold medal at the South Asian Games in Guwahati in 2016.
In the year 2017, Mirabai won the gold medal in the 48 kg weight class of the World Weightlifting Championship.
In the year 2018, he won a gold medal in the 48 kg weight class category at the Commonwealth Games.
Due to her superior performance in sports, Mirabai Chanu has brought laurels to Manipur and India from time to time. Mirabai's name figures prominently among some of the select women weightlifters in the country.
Mirabai Chanu has been awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
Manipur government provides a cash prize of 20 lakh rupees for their performance in the Games.
