Chennai: Tamil actress-model Meera Mitun was arrested in Kerala on August 14 and has now been brought to Chennai to be produced before a court in Saidapet. She will remain in judicial custody till August 27.  Meera Mithun's friend Abhishek Shyam, who was also seen in the video where she made casteist slur, has been arrested by Chennai.. He will be produced in court on Monday.

 The actress had created an internet furore over her casteist remarks on the Scheduled Caste community following which an FIR was lodged against her by various forums in Tamil Nadu demanding that action be taken.  The actor was picked from a private resort in Alappuzha in Kerala by the Chennai Crime Branch police after she did not appear before the investigating officers even after getting a summons. On August 7, Meera took to Instagram and shared a video in which she passed a casteist slur while complaining about a director allegedly stealing her picture and using it for a movie's first look. The actress was booked under relevant sections of the IPC and SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. 

The Chennai Crime Branch police detained the actress after she failed to appear for inquiry. Earlier, before getting arrest, Meera had uploaded a video, which now stands deleted, wherein she recorded herself saying that she is being harassed by male police officers, according to reports.
