On February 9, Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha with other government delegation decide over scrappage policy for trucks and it is also deciding whether this policy will be compulsory scrapping or voluntary.

According to the sources, The Steel Ministry is likely to push for a mandatory scrappage policy in the meeting. The ministry believes after this decision the waste turn to wealth and will help the environment.

The government is set up four scrappage units in a joint venture with MSTC.

It is decided in the meeting by the committee whether this policy is ready for India and what incentive and the financial package is given by the government and what this policy scope.

The committee will implement the policy only for heavy duty trucks initially and decide on the cut-off date.
